Create Your Family Tree is a free, private family tree maker that runs entirely in your web browser — no account, no subscription, and nothing uploaded.

What it is

The heart of the site is the family tree maker: add a person, then build outward to parents, grandparents, partners, children, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. The chart lays itself out by generation, and you can add dates, notes and photos, then print it or save it as a PDF or image.

Around it are free tools and guides for the rest of the job: printable family tree templates for filling in by hand, a cousin relationship calculator, an explanation of family relationship names, a step-by-step guide to making a family tree, a family tree project guide for kids, and guides to finding genealogy records and GEDCOM files.

How it works

• Browser only. Your tree is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device. There is no server-side database and no account to create.
• You own your data. Save your tree as a file at any time, re-open it later, or export it as a GEDCOM file to use in other genealogy software.
• Private by design. Photos are resized on your device and never leave it. See the privacy policy for details.
