Privacy policy
The short version: your family tree never leaves your device. We use Google Analytics to count visits, and that is all.
Your family tree data
- Stored on your device only. Everything you enter in the family tree maker — names, dates, notes and photos — is saved in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and we have no copy of it.
- Nothing is uploaded. There is no server-side database, so we cannot see, recover or delete your tree. Clearing your browser data, or using a private/incognito window, will remove it; use Save file to keep a backup.
- Photos are processed locally. When you add a photo it is resized in your browser and stored with the rest of your tree on your device.
- Files stay local. Saving a tree (as .json, GEDCOM or an image) downloads a file directly to your device. Opening a file reads it in your browser; it is not uploaded.
No accounts
The site has no sign-up, login or user accounts, and we do not ask for your name or email address.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics (property G-R2PCTYZ2ES) to understand how many people visit, which pages they view and roughly where they come from, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type. It does not receive any of the family tree information you enter. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.
You can opt out of Google Analytics by:
- blocking or deleting cookies in your browser settings;
- installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on; or
- using a browser or extension that blocks tracking scripts. The site keeps working normally.
Google Fonts
The site's typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts. When your browser downloads them, Google receives your IP address and browser information as part of the normal web request.
Children
The site does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. Family tree data entered by students stays on their own device, as described above.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top.
